Nepal to Tibet Trip Accommodation
It is a common choice for tourists to travel to Tibet via Kathmandu, and I have compiled a detailed outline of information about the primary destinations on your Tibet journey for your reference.
Border Area Accommodation: Gyirong Port to Gyirong Town
Crossing the Gyirong Port from Kathmandu is a pivotal milestone on your Nepal-Tibet journey, truly ushering in the start of your incredible adventure in Tibet. You'll need a valid Tibet Travel Permit and group visa to enter China, and this is where our local Tibet travel agency team will meet you. Once you've cleared customs, it's just a short drive to Gyirong Town, the first stop in Tibet where you can stay overnight. Different from the remote Nepali border areas, Gyirong Town has clean, cozy commercial hotels and hostels, though there are no luxury 5-star options here. The good news is that the town's altitude is around 2,800 meters, much lower than Lhasa. Most hotels here offer basic amenities like hot water, heating, and clean beds—exactly what you need after a long day of traveling and border checks.

Accommodation in Tibet: From Gyirong to Lhasa
Once you leave Gyirong Town, you'll head deeper into Tibet, with two main route options: driving directly to Lhasa via Gyirong County, Lhatse, and Shigatse, or taking a detour to Everest Base Camp (EBC)—a must-see for many travelers. Let's break down the accommodation options along both routes.
Starting with Gyirong County, about 1.5 hours from Gyirong Town, you'll find budget hostels (around 50 RMB per bed) and mid-range hotels (100-300 RMB per standard room). Tourists can easily browse accommodation and travel options online on platforms such as Ctrip, and our team is also ready to take care of all your reservations for you. Next, if you take the EBC detour, the next stop is Old Tingri (Gangga Town). Booking accommodation here can be tricky—searching for "Old Tingri" online often pulls up results for New Tingri (Shekhar), so it's best to rely on our local trip advisors to book a clean hotel for you. When you reach Everest Base Camp, the accommodation is unique: you can stay in yak tent guesthouse or the limited standard rooms. Note that accommodation conditions at EBC is very basic.
From EBC, you'll drive to Shigatse, Tibet's second-largest city, and here you'll find plenty of options: from 3-star hotels included in most Tibet tour packages to mid-range hotels like the Hilton Shigatse, which is close to Tashilhunpo Monastery. Finally, Lhasa—the end of your journey—offers the widest range of accommodation. Luxury travelers can book 5-star hotels like the St. Regis Lhasa Resort, which features 24-hour oxygen supply, butler service, and views of the Potala Palace. Mid-range options include 3-4 star hotels in the old quarter near Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street, while budget backpackers can choose hostels with dorm beds or private rooms.

Key Tips for Choosing Nepal-Tibet Accommodation
When choosing accommodation for your Nepal-Tibet trip, there are a few important factors to keep in mind. First, altitude matters—look for hotels with oxygen supply and heating when staying to avoid discomfort. Second, consider the season: peak travel season (April-October) means higher prices and limited availability, so book at least 2-3 months in advance. During the off-season (November-March), most hotels in Tibet offer big discounts, and attractions are less crowded. Third, think about convenience: staying near major attractions (like Barkhor Street in Lhasa) makes it easier to explore and find restaurants. For remote areas like Old Tingri, many hotels aren't listed on international booking platforms.

Conclusion
Notably, it is a mandatory requirement that every foreign tourist travelling to Tibet entrusts their hotel reservations to a registered local travel agency. Our agency not only assists you in securing the most suitable accommodation in line with your budget, but also undertakes the full management of all travel-related details.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
