Shigatse to Lhasa Train Route: Following the Yarlung Tsangpo River
After your Shigatse trip ends and you head to Lhasa, the high-speed train between these two cities is a go-to choice—not just for speed, but for the unique Yarlung Tsangpo River views you'll see along the ride! Every day, there are 2 to 3 high-speed trains running from Shigatse to Lhasa, covering over 200 kilometers in just about 2 hours and 20 minutes.

When it comes to tickets, they go on sale 15 days in advance. Prices are super affordable: a second-class seat is around 64 RMB, first-class is about 103 RMB, and business class is 225 RMB. You can buy tickets on the official 12306 website or app. As for seats, the numbering follows the standard "ABCDF" format—if you want a window seat to soak up the river views, go for seats labeled "A" or "F"! Not sure how to navigate the booking process or worried about missing out on window seats? Our Tibet travel agency can handle ticket booking for you, plus help plan your entire Shigatse-Lhasa itinerary.

As soon as the train leaves Shigatse City, the view outside your window changes—no more city buildings, just green highland countryside! You are going to see the water of Yarlung Tsangpo River flows gently, shimmering in a soft turquoise color, and the banks are lined with vast wetlands. If you're traveling in summer, these wetlands turn lush, and you might spot black-necked cranes resting or gliding over the water. In autumn, the scene shifts to a golden wonderland: the barley fields next to the wetlands ripen into a bright yellow, contrasting beautifully with the river's green. Tiny Tibetan villages with white walls and red roofs dot the landscape, making it look like a vivid oil painting come to life. Then, as the train gets closer to the main stretch of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, you'll notice the river suddenly widen. The shoreline changes to sandy terrain, and every now and then, you'll see herders leading yaks to graze by the water. On clear days, you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Nyenchen Tanglha—its snow line blending with the clouds, creating a scene that feels almost otherworldly. Every minute of this train ride is a new postcard-perfect view, and it's the kind of experience that makes your Tibet trip feel extra special.

Conclusion
Depending on the schedule of your small group Tibet travel package, we may sometimes arrange a train ride for your return trip from Shigatse to Lhasa. Better yet, we can also design an exclusive Tibet itinerary just for you—one that includes this train journey, exactly as you'd like!

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
