Zongjiao Lukang Park: Where Locals Unwind
Right behind the magnificent Potala Palace in Lhasa, Zongjiao Lukang Park, often called "Dragon King Pool", is a serene oasis where locals and travelers alike find peace amid the city's spiritual energy. It's bounded by Linkuo North Road and Beijing Middle Road, covering 400,000 square meters of lush greenery—Lhasa's largest urban park. The park is easily accessible on foot, just 5 minutes from the Potala Palace.
The northern part of the park is a sprawling wetland with wooden boardwalks winding through reeds and grass. The air here is rich in negative ions, making it ideal for easing mild altitude sickness—take a 30-minute stroll, and you'll feel refreshed. Locals love this spot too: in the morning, you'll see elders doing tai chi, singing Tibetan songs, or dancing guozhuang (group circle dances); in the afternoon, families feed fish; at dusk, couples walk hand-in-hand as the sun dips behind the mountains. It's the most authentic taste of Lhasa life you'll find.

A 2-kilometer kora (prayer circuit) surrounds the park, lined with stone prayer wheels filled with scriptures. Locals walk clockwise around the path, spinning each wheel gently and murmuring prayers—a tradition dating back to King Songtsen Gampo's era. You're welcome to join the kora too—just follow the clockwise flow, spin each wheel all the way around, and let the rhythmic creaks of the wood calm your mind. During the Yogurt Festival, there are Tibetan opera performances and guozhuang contests.

While the Potala reflection is iconic, Zongjiao Lukang has endless photo ops:
Dragon King Temple: Cross the bridge to the lake's central island, where a tiny red-roofed temple sits. Frame it with the Potala in the background for a shot that blends myth and majesty.
Ancient Trees & Prayer Wheels: Use the park's centuries-old pine trees as a foreground for photos of the kora path and distant Potala—adds depth and storytelling to your snaps.
Wetland Reeds: In autumn, the reeds turn golden—pair them with the lake's reflection for a postcard-worthy autumn scene.
Sunset Silhouettes: Head to the lake's east bank at dusk. The setting sun gilds the Potala, and you can capture stunning silhouettes against the palace's outline.

Conclusion
So, after you've explored the palace, take a stroll through this beloved park. Sit by the water, watch the light change on the palace walls, and carry a piece of Lhasa's calm away with you.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
