Qugu Monastery: The Gateway to Mt. Kailash Kora
Nestled in Purang County of Ngari Prefecture, Tibet, Qugu Monastery holds a revered and indispensable position as the traditional starting point for the iconic Mt. Kailash kora. Perched at a breathtaking altitude of 4,820 meters on the western foothills of the sacred mountain, it is more than a monastery; it is a spiritual threshold and a beloved landmark deeply embedded in the hearts of local Tibetans.
The monastery's profound significance is magnified by its most prized treasure: a naturally formed stone statue of the Buddha. Believed to be self-manifested and imbued with divine power, this sacred stone is the soul of Qugu, drawing pilgrims who seek its blessings before embarking on their arduous circuit. Its presence reinforces the site's status as a place where the earthly and the divine intimately converge.

With roots stretching back to the 13th century, Qugu Monastery stands as a proud custodian of the Tibetan Buddhism's Kagyu sect heritage. Within its ancient, sun-baked walls lies a serene world of devotion. A revered statue of Sakyamuni Buddha presides over the main hall, alongside a vast and precious collection of ancient Tibetan Buddhist sutras—handwritten scriptures that are cultural relics in their own right. The sacred relics of esteemed Kagyu lineage masters are also preserved here, their presence a continuous thread connecting past and present disciples. The monastery's interior is a visual symphony, adorned with breathtaking frescoes. Their once-vibrant hues and intricate designs narrate intricate tales from Buddhist mythology and the region's rich history, silently educating visitors in a language of color and form.

Beyond its spiritual and artistic wealth, Qugu Monastery pragmatically serves as a vital lifeline for kora travelers. It functions as a crucial supply station and sanctuary at the edge of the wilderness. Weary pilgrims can find respite in simple tents or sturdy stone houses, sipping steaming cups of hot butter tea and nourishing local soups to fortify themselves against the high-altitude chill. For those daunted by the journey ahead, the monastery offers another essential service: the rental of horses, providing vital support to ease the physical burden of the 52-kilometer trek.

Conclusion
As the final preparation point, Qugu Monastery also gifts pilgrims with what is widely considered one of the most spectacular views of the sacred mountain. From its grounds, the majestic, snow-clad western face of Mt. Kailash rises in flawless symmetry, an awe-inspiring sight that has the power to silence even the most seasoned travelers. This magnificent vista serves as both a solemn farewell and a powerful invitation, grounding the pilgrim's purpose before they step onto the path that circles the axis of the world.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
