Most Popular Tibet Routes for First-Time Visitors
If you're visiting Tibet for the first time, remember these key points. Tibet, the world's highest plateau, has a challenging environment for your body.
First, beware of the low-oxygen. High altitude means less oxygen, and altitude sickness like headaches or nausea might occur. Also, the solar radiation is strong due to clear skies and high elevation, so protect yourself.
The climate is another issue. It's changeable and dry, with sudden weather shifts. Low overall temperatures and large day-night differences can weaken your immune system, causing acclimatization problems.
Regarding water, local water has high mineral content, which may upset your stomach. Start with bottled water. Tibetan cuisine, featuring yak, mutton, and barley with lots of butter and spices, can also cause digestive issues if your stomach isn't used to it.
Based on all these considerations, a trip to Tibet lasting around one week is the most scientifically recommended for first-time visitors. During this period, you are able to visit most of the renowned attractions in Tibet. Meanwhile, it won't place too much of a burden on your body, enabling you to relish your journey and take good care of your health as well.
