Hidden Costs to Avoid in Tibet Tours
Almost every tourist aspires to have a smooth travel experience without excessive unnecessary costs. When planning a tour to the breathtaking region of Tibet, being aware of potential hidden costs can make a significant difference in your overall travel budget and enjoyment. Here are some highly practical tips to help you avoid some costs you may overlook during your Tibet adventure.
Choose a Reliable and Reputed Travel Agency
Every foreign tourist is required to book a Tibet trip to obtain permission to tour Tibet, so choosing the right travel agency is your first step. You should check whether the travel agency is qualified and try to search the Internet to scan customer feedback of their tour packages, so that you can ensure if there are complaints regarding overcharging.
Opt for a Tour with Clear Costs
Before your booking, you need to confirm with your travel agency about what costs are included in the travel package and what costs are not included, which is also helpful to your budget plan. Low-priced tour packages with high hidden costs are nothing new. In this case, some travel agencies omit some important services or projects for financial purpose, and then ask tourists to pay additional fees for various reasons later. In another case, some tour packages may only show part of the costs in their promotions and hide some additional costs. For example, they may not include some self-funded items in attractions.
Be Careful about Your Choice of Food
Try to avoid eating at restaurants in the scenic areas as the food prices in these areas are usually higher. Alternatively, you can ask your guide for some cost-effective restaurants or snack stalls, where you can enjoy authentic Tibetan cuisine while saving money. It is recommended to check the prices before ordering to avoid exceeding your budget expectations.
Be Selective about Your Souvenirs
There are some cases where souvenirs are significantly overpriced. It's advisable to explore different stores and compare prices thoroughly. Don't hesitate to bargain for a more reasonable deal.
Travel Light
You should be aware that you will need to pay a baggage handling fee if you exceed the free baggage weight or size limit set by the airline. Therefore, trying light is useful to avoid some costs to some extent. In fact, some necessities are cheaper to buy in China than in your own country, so think carefully about your carry-on.
