How Many Days Do You Need for a Mount Kailash Tour?
How many days do I actually need? The answer boils down to your starting point, end point, and how deeply you want to explore the region. One thing's non-negotiable, though—the iconic Mount Kailash Outer Kora always takes 3 days, no matter which route you choose. Overall, trips range from 8 to 17 days, and we've broken down the three most popular itineraries below to help you pick the perfect fit.
The Classic Loop: Lhasa to Lhasa (12–15 Days)
This is the ultimate Tibetan adventure, perfect for those who want to drink in the full spectrum of the region's beauty, from its cultural heart to its wild western frontiers.
A 12-day version covers the essentials, while a more relaxed 15-day journey allows for deeper exploration. You'll begin in Lhasa, giving yourself a couple of crucial days to acclimatize to the altitude while exploring the Potala Palace and bustling Barkhor Street. As you journey out, you'll be greeted by the turquoise waters of Yamdrok Lake, the ancient ice of the Karola Glacier, and the monastic grandeur of the Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse.
For many, a detour to Everest Base Camp is a non-negotiable addition, offering that iconic view of the world's highest peak. As you push into the remote Ngari Prefecture, the landscape opens up to the sublime pair of sacred lakes: Lake Manasarovar, a vast sheet of serenity perfect for a lakeside stroll, and the mysteriously beautiful "Ghost Lake." After completing the Kora, the return leg often includes a night by the breathtaking Namtso Lake, where the starry skies are truly unforgettable. This loop is ideal for first-time visitors to Tibet.

The Cross-Border Express: Kathmandu to Kathmandu (8–10 Days)
Short on time but big on ambition? This route is your express ticket to the heart of the Himalayas. By entering and exiting via the Gyirong Port on the Nepal-China border, you go straight to the celestial landscapes of Ngari.
An 8-day itinerary is compact, focusing intensely on the Kora and the essential sights. A more comfortable 10-day version gives you time to truly soak in the atmosphere of Lake Manasarovar and explore the border town of Purang. The journey itself is spectacular, taking you from the lush, green valleys of the Nepal border directly into the stark, high-altitude desert of Tibet.
This is the perfect choice for travelers already in Nepal or those with limited time who want to focus purely on the Mount Kailash Kora experience.

The One-Way Adventure: Lhasa to Kathmandu (10–12 Days)
This brilliant one-way journey combines the best of Tibet with a grand exit into Nepal, ensuring you never retrace your steps.
In 10 days, you'll hit the highlights: Lhasa, Shigatse, the sacred lakes, and the Kora before crossing the border. Opt for the 12-day version, and you can include that bucket-list stop at Everest Base Camp on the Tibetan side for a unique double-feature of the world's most famous mountains.
This route is for the traveler who craves variety—rich Tibetan culture, epic mountain vistas, and the vibrant contrast of finishing in Kathmandu. The logistics, however, can be complex, requiring both Chinese and Nepalese visas and permits. A reliable travel agency is worth its weight in gold here, seamlessly managing your Tibet Travel Permit, border crossings, and transportation.

Conclusion
Where will your Tibetan dream begin? Simply tell us your preferred starting point—be it Lhasa, Kathmandu, or elsewhere—and let us craft your unforgettable journey.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
