How Long to Get a Tibet Travel Permit?
So, how long should you budget for? Under normal circumstances, you should plan for a processing time of approximately 8 to 9 working days.
Please note, this clock starts ticking only after we have submitted your complete application to the authorities. What needs to happen before that submission? We need to work together to finalize your Tibet tour itinerary, book your hotels, and arrange your guide, driver and tour vehicle. This collaborative planning phase is crucial and adds to the overall lead time. That's why we always recommend reaching out to us as early as possible—ideally 2–3 months before your intended travel dates. This gives us a comfortable window to create your perfect trip and navigate the approval process smoothly.

The Need for Extra Permits
Is your dream to witness the sunrise over Mount Everest or trek the sacred path around Mount Kailash? If your Tibet itinerary includes restricted areas beyond Lhasa, you'll need additional permits.
Visiting destinations like Everest Base Camp, Mount Kailash in Ngari, or certain parts of Nyingchi requires a separate Tibet Border Permit. This permit involves extra checks from military and border authorities, which naturally adds more time to the overall process. For these incredible but complex adventures, I strongly advise initiating the process with us at least one month in advance, if not more. This ensures all the necessary stamps of approval are secured for your journey into Tibet's most remote and breathtaking corners.
Frankly speaking, the timeline of your Tibet Travel Permit can be influenced by a few factors that we can't control. The number of applications, especially during peak season from May to October, can cause delays. National holidays in China and occasional shifts in policy can also affect processing speeds.

Nevertheless, our experienced team has built strong relationships and understands the nuances of the system. If you find yourself with a tight schedule, don't panic. Talk to us about our expedited service. While we can't make promises, we will do everything in our power to speed up the process and push your application through as quickly as possible. We've successfully helped some last-minute travelers, and we might just be able to work some magic for you too.
If you're staying in another Chinese city before heading to Tibet, we can also mail it to your hotel, friend's place, or accommodation. Just note that mailing takes 3 to 5 extra days, depending on the distance. Pro tip: If you're flying directly to Lhasa, you'll need to show your permit at check-in, so make sure you have it in hand before heading to the airport!

Conclusion
If you're ready to take the next step or simply have more questions about your Tibet tour, our travel consultants are here to help!

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
