Tips for Traveling to Tibet with Children
Children tend to be curious about unfamiliar environments and cultures. When they travel to Tibet, a place totally different from their homes, they will try to explore about Tibetan customs, Tibetan language, Tibetan architectural style, etc. This curiosity prompts them to integrate into and understand the new environment, thus better adapting to social life. It’s highly recommend to take your children to Tibet to enjoy this pure land, breathing fresh air and bathing in sunshine.
Moreover, traveling is a good chance to bond with your children. The article is written with the purpose of offering useful advice for your Tibet family tour.
Child-Friendly Tibet Attractions/Activities
First of all, it’s during Tibetan festivals such as Saga dawa Festival and Shoton Festival that Tibet is a really vibrant region. I suppose children would be attracted by the busy and lively streets and parks. By participating in local Tibetan folk activities in Dragon King Pond Park, children can get exposed to exotic cultures while having fun.
Barkhor Street is also an eye-catching place. Children can see traditional Tibetan clothing, Tibetan handicrafts such as Tibetan knives and Tibetan blankets, and religious items such as Tibetan prayer wheels. Choose souvenirs for your child from these countless products with distinct Tibetan characteristics to cheer them up. Not only can shopping bring children joy, but the traditional dance performances and handicraft making here are also very charming. Most importantly, which child can say no to delicious food? There are many Tibetan restaurants, and children can taste authentic Tibetan cuisine, such as butter tea and Tibetan noodles.
You can also opt for sacred Tibet’s lakes like Lake Yamdrok, Lake Namtso, and Lake Manasarovar, which are generally involved in the itinerary of Tibet family tours. Blue sky, white clouds and clear lake water all these will contribute to good memories in your Tibet trip and make your children put down their electronic devices and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Pay Attention to Your Children’s Health
In high altitude areas, altitude sickness is normal. However, children are naturally energetic and active. Strenuous exercise can aggravate altitude sickness. To avoid this, please do not let your children run, jump, or engage in other strenuous activities. Under the guidance of a doctor, you can prepare some medications for children to prevent altitude sickness.
At What Age Are Children Suitable to Travel to Tibet?
It is not recommended to take children under the age of 4 to Tibet. This is because their heart and lung functions are still in the developmental stage. And young children have limited language expression abilities. When they experience altitude sickness or discomfort, they may not be able to accurately convey their feelings to their parents.
What to Pack for Children?
Considering the long car rides between some attractions, it's best to bring some entertaining toys to keep your children occupied. Sunblock, sun hats, and sunglasses are used to protect children's delicate skin. Due to the large temperature difference between day and night, it's important to take down jacket and other warm clothing. Make sure you keep a first aid kit ready to deal with expected emergency.
Educate Your Children to Respect Tibetan Etiquette
Please let you children keep quiet when visiting Tibetan monasteries and do not touch the Buddhism statues. It’s not allowed to play with Mani stones and prayer flags.
For children, the new sensory experiences brought by traveling to Tibet will make them very excited. Join in a small group Tibet tour or a private tailored tour right now to set off your Tibet journey right now!
