Day Trips from Lhasa: Nearby Attractions
If you're spending a few days in Lhasa and wondering where to go next—wanting to avoid venturing too far or blowing your budget—this guide is just for you! I know time-sensitive and budget-conscious travelers need easy, doable trips, so all the spots I’ma about sharing are just a few hours' drive from Lhasa. That means you can visit them in a single day, soak up the beauty, and head back to your hotel in Lhasa by night—no overnight stays, no long, tiring journeys.
Yangbajing Hot Springs
Just a short drive (about 90 km) from Lhasa, Yangbajing is famous for its natural hot springs. After a long journey or a day of sightseeing in Lhasa, there's nothing more relaxing than soaking in the warm, mineral-rich waters of Yangbajing. The hot springs are set against a backdrop of stunning mountains, offering a serene and rejuvenating experience. The surrounding area also provides opportunities for hiking and enjoying the natural beauty of Tibet.

Yamdrok Lake
Yamdrok Lake is approximately 100 km southwest of Lhasa, making it a perfect destination for a day trip. This turquoise holy lake is one of Tibet's three sacred lakes and is known for its breathtaking beauty. From the Gangbala Pass, you can enjoy panoramic views of the lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Besides admiring the natural scenery, you can also visit a Tibetan family living by the lakeshore.

Tsurphu Monastery
Tsurphu Monastery, located about 70 km west of Lhasa at an altitude of 4,300 m, is the traditional seat of the Karmapa lamas. Set in a rugged mountain valley, it combines a sacred atmosphere with dramatic scenery. The monastery is well-known for its annual Cham masked dances, where monks perform centuries-old rituals in elaborate costumes to bless the land and drive away evil spirits. It also serves as the starting point for the classic trek Tsurphu to Yangbajing across vast highland pastures.
Drak Yerpa Monastery
Drak Yerpa Monastery, about 30 km from Lhasa, is a sacred retreat made up of ancient meditation caves and chapels clinging to steep cliffs. It has been a place of practice for kings, monks, and hermits for over a thousand years and still carries a strong spiritual atmosphere. Hiking up the slopes not only offers insight into Tibet's meditative traditions but also opens up wide views of the valley below. Morning visits are recommended for clear skies and fewer visitors.

Conclusion
All these spots are easy to visit, fit any budget, and let you see a different side of Tibet.

plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April
Hi! I would like to plan a 7-8days trip for me and my boyfriend in April (3rd to 10th ideally) to Nepal, Tibet, and, if possible, Bhutan. Do you think it would be doable? Based on what I read, there are some places/things to do to consider: Nepal: Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit, ancient temples, sacred sites like Lumbini, Kathmandu, Tibet: The Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Jokhang Temple. eventually the holy Mount Kailash or the high-altitude plains. Bhutan: Thimphu, Paro, and the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. To take part in cultural traditions, yoga, meditation... Of course I am open to any recommendations you could make. For your reference, we are both based in Asia: him, in Bangkok and myself in Macau. Thank you so much for the information you could provide and, if possible, an estimated budget for your offer.
